Direct commercial flights between the United States and Venezuela have restarted with an American Airlines service between Miami and Caracas, almost seven years after they were suspended. On Thursday, flight AA3599, operated by American’s regional subsidiary Envoy Air, left Miami late in the morning, arrived in Caracas about three hours later, and returned to Florida the same day.

The US had halted direct flights in 2019 after the Department of Homeland Security ordered an indefinite suspension over security concerns, at a time when diplomatic relations between Washington and Caracas had broken down. The resumption comes a few months after US forces captured former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in a January raid and after the restoration of full diplomatic ties, including the reopening of the US embassy in Caracas.

American Airlines, which had been the last US carrier serving Venezuela before suspending its routes in 2019, is now the first to relaunch nonstop service and plans to add a second daily Miami–Caracas flight in late May. Officials and airline representatives say the renewed connection will help families reunite, particularly in Miami‑Dade’s large Venezuelan community, and will support new business and investment after years in which travellers had to rely on indirect routes through other Latin American countries.
